Error While Launching Skype for Windows 10: What to Do?

Fix 1. Check microphone and camera permissions of your computer.

  1. Open the Start Menu and select Settings.
  2. Click on Privacy, and then go to the Microphone option.
  3. Enable the ‘Let apps use my Microphone’ option.
  4. Go to Camera and enable the ‘Let apps use my Camera hardware’ option.

Fix 2. Reset the Skype application.

  1. On the Start Menu, click on Settings.
  2. Click on Apps, and then locate and choose Skype.
  3. Click on Advanced option, and then press the reset button. This will restore factory settings.

Fix 3. Check firewall settings for Windows Defender.

  1. Go to Settings, and then click on Update & Security.
  2. Locate Windows Defender, and then click on the ‘Open Windows Security Center’ option.
  3. This will navigate you to the ‘Firewall & network protection’ tab.
  4. Locate the ‘Allow an app through firewall’ option, and tick on Skype if it has not been done already.

Fix 4. Reinstall Skype for Windows 10.

  1. Open Start, and then click Settings.
  2. Click on Apps, and then locate Skype. Right click on it and press Uninstall.
  3. After uninstalling, open Microsoft Store.
  4. In the Store, search for Skype. Download and install it.
  5. Restart your computer, and then try launching Skype again.
